Histories 1

From Erik Riis Klausen in Naestved we have received the following about Grunau Baby II B, Z-942
It was build in 1948, and my first flight in 942 took place 11-08-1958 at Karup AB. I was in the Air Force for 3 years as a technician, and a months later I was transferred to Vaerloese AB, and so was also 942.
In the years 1959 and 1960 we had two Baby's at Vaerloese, 942 and 944, and I flew them both very frequently. In 1961 942 was for sale, and our offer from Naestved Gliderclub, 500 DDK was accepted.,

The glider was in fairly good condition, and after minor repairs and re-painting I have noted in my logbook on June 17th, 1961: OY-DXZ, test flight after repair and change of owner, no remarks! (DXZ was the civilian registration)
We had a lot of fun out of it for many years; our primary base in those years was Avnoe, the Air Base for basic training of fighter pilots. Unfortunately, it was also at Avnoe AB, 942/DXZ faced its destiny. Our gliders were normaly stored in an old barn at the area, but luckily the Baby was the only one on that night in October 1967, when the country was hit by a hurricane!
The barn collapsed, and the glider was totally destroyed! My personal "Baby adventure" was covering a period of 10 years. I have flown 942/DXZ, 943, 944, 946, our homebuilt DXY, and the ABX (build by Buchwald) many years later. All together I have 716 flights on Baby.
